Appointments to Non-League Boards

Service on Boards of Non-League Organizations and Corporations

LWVUS/LWVEF board members, as private individuals, may serve as directors on the boards of non-League organizations and corporations.  They shall notify the LWVUS/LWVEF board of their appointment to such a board.  Their League title may be listed for identification purposes but may not be used in a promotional manner.

Any potential conflicts shall be brought to the attention of the LWVUS/LWVEF board.

Securing Appointments to Governmental Boards

The LWVUS/LWVEF may encourage and assist LWVUS/LWVEF board members and other League members to secure appointments to governmental boards, commissions and committees.  Such appointees shall serve as private individuals rather than as formal representatives of the League, unless the position was offered to the League.

When League members serve as individuals on such a board, their League title may be listed for identification purposes but may not be used in a promotional manner.

Representing the League on a Non-League Board

When a board/advisory board seat or an appointment to a governmental board is offered to the League, the LWVUS/LWVEF board shall determine whether the League will accept the position.  If the board accepts the offer, the President/Chair may take the seat or may appoint an LWVUS/LWVEF board member, a staff member or a non-board member to represent the League.

When an LWVUS/LWVEF board member has represented the League on such a board and her/his term of office has ended, the LWVUS/LWVEF board shall determine whether she/he should continue to represent the League on that board or whether a new representative should be appointed.  In the case of a staff member who has represented the League on such a board and whose employment with the League has ended, the President/Chair shall appoint a new representative to the position.
