In 2011 the League of Women Voters, in partnership with the Leagues of St. Paul, MN; Baltimore County, MD; White Bear Lake Area, MN and Door County, WI organized hosting programs on the theme of Accountable Governance with subthemes on Municipal Governance, Elections, and Media and Participatory Government. During the year 24 visitors from Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Tajikistan were hosted for one week of intense programming on the themes.
Since 2005 with funding from the Open World Leadership Center (OWLC) forty (40) local Leagues have hosted 250 visitors from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. Host Leagues have excelled in achieving the programmatic objectives by organizing intensive agendas that maximize local resources.
Since 2005 League members have traveled to Russia, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan at the invitation of the hosted visitors. In 2004 and 2008 League members traveled to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaluga, and Vyborg to meet and visit with former hosted participants and local partners in the League's Civic Hosting of International Visitors. In 2006 League members traveled to Kyiv, Kirovohrad, and Lyiv to meet with local partners, to participate in a master class with elected women, and to visit with former hosted participants. In 2008 and 2010 League members traveled to Ganja and Baku, Azerbaijan to participate in an international conference and to visit with former hosted participants and local partners.
