Dear Members of the League of Women Voters,

To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the League of Women Voters, I am sending you an article, attached as a PDF file, on the roots of the League in the woman suffrage movement, which is also celebrating its 90th anniversary.

Our author, Robert P. J. Cooney, Jr., was invited to give the keynote address at the final banquet following the League’s biannual convention in Atlanta, Georgia, a month ago. We wanted to share his well received-presentation with you as it might help familiarize new members with Carrie Catt and the heritage of the historic League.

We also wanted to mention Mr. Cooney’s book, “Winning the Vote: The Triumph of the American Woman Suffrage Movement,” which was also extremely well received by convention participants from around the country.

For a limited time he would be happy to autograph copies for League members if orders are sent directly to me. The 495-page oversize book contains nearly 1,000 photographs and illustrations and sells for $85. I have also been authorized to offer free shipping (usually $12.50) to League members until September 1.

This is a unique and wonderful book that covers the origins of the League as well as a crucial and exciting chapter in American history. It’s perfect for any lover of American democracy, and certainly for any League member, office, or local library.

Congratulations, happy 90th anniversary, and I hope to hear from you.
