The 51st National Convention of the League of Women Voters- Power: Our Voices, Our Votes- will be held June 6–10, 2014, in Dallas, Texas, at the Omni Dallas Downtown Hotel. 

Please join national, state and local League leaders from around the country for this lively biennial event - to hear powerful and informative speakers, learn more about the issues important to the organization and the nation, participate in training sessions and join in the discussion and networking that make the League a strong and vital force in our democracy.

At this gathering the LWVUS is joined by the LWV of Texas and LWV of Dallas in welcoming League members from all 50 states to participate.

The Schedule at a Glance provides an overview of what's happening each day during Convention.  In planning your travel, please note that training sessions are from 1:00 to 5:30 pm on Friday, June 6. The first Plenary session will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 7.  Convention will conclude at noon on Tuesday, June 10 by approximately Noon.

In May, a detailed schedule of all Convention business, activities, and events will be available online.

Key Business Items

Our  bylaws govern other key elements, including delegate representation, elections of officers and directors, program and budget adoption. This website will offer additional helpful tools to assist you.  The number of delegates a League is entitled to is determined by its membership count as of January 31, 2014.

Please note that, per LWVUS bylaws, in order to vote at Convention 2014, a League must have met its Per Member Payment (PMP) obligation in full for fiscal year 2013-14 (July 1, 2013 - June 30, 2014), as well as for previous fiscal years.  


Register for Convention                                              

Please use the Convention 2014 registration form to register as a delegate or visitor. (Log in to access the form.)  The $335 fee includes participation in all trainings, briefings, caucuses, general sessions, and national networking events, and includes the LWVUS-hosted banquet and program on Monday evening.  After May 24th, a late fee of $50 will be added.  Pre-registration closes on May 31. Anyone wishing to register after that date can do so on-site in Dallas for a cost of $385.

Your registration fee includes your dinner at the Monday evening Banquet.  Additional tickets will be sold on Saturday and Sunday at the registration desk..  To learn more about our banquet speaker Wade Goodwyn and other convention speakers, click here.

Reserve a Hotel Room

The Omni Dallas Downtown Hotel is the Convention 2014 hotel and has provided a special convention room rate for participants (booking deadline to ensure this low rate is May 19).  The hotel has been recognized for its commitment to being "green," including energy saving systems and locally sourced foods when available.

Register for Dallas Post-Convention Tours

The Dallas Local Arrangements Committee in Dallas has arranged to offer two tours on Tues., June 10, at 1:00 pm following the close of the Convention.

  • The Dallas Highlights Tour of the top sites and attractions of downtown Dallas – art, architecture, professional sports, parks and more.
  • The George W. Bush Presidential Center Tour, located on the campus of the Southern Methodist University.

Getting to the Omni

Two airports serve Dallas:  Dallas-Fort Worth, and Dallas Love Field. Go Yellow Checker runs from 6 am-6 pm daily from Dallas-Fort Worth Airport to the Omni, and picks up at the hotel every 30 minutes. Guests can pick it up at any time from the airport. It is $19 one way and $17 if reservations are made in advance. Due to the Omni’s close proximity to Dallas Love Field, there is not currently a shuttle; however, a cab ride is approximately $25 one way.

As you make your travel plans, note that training sessions are from 1:00 to 5:30 pm on Friday, June 6, the first Plenary session is at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 7, and Convention concludes at noon on Tuesday, June 10.

Convention Activities and Events

Please make plans to join convention attendees at these special events in Dallas:

  • On Saturday, June 7, the LWV of Dallas is hosting “Red Hot Patriot,” a live performance about Texas journalist Molly Ivins. Buy your ticket online now! Proceeds benefit the LWV of Dallas.  
  • When you arrive at the Omni, sign up at the Dine Around table to join one of the groups going to 30 different Dallas restaurants  on Sunday, June 8 at 5:30 – 8:00 pm.
  • Your registration fee includes your dinner at the Monday evening Banquet.  Additional tickets will be sold at the registration desk on site.

Showcase Your League: Awards, Caucuses, Wares Market

Convention 2014 Award applications are under review. Finalists have been selected and League members and the public are encouraged to vote on their favorites.  Winners will be announced at the Convention in Dallas.

Convention goers interested in sharing their passions and expertise, and learning from other League members will find a variety of morning and evening caucuses on many different programs and issues to attend.  The complete caucus schedule will be available online in May
