WASHINGTON — The League of Women Voters of the United State issued the following statement following the House Administration Committees hearing “American Confidence in Elections: Preventing Noncitizen Voting and Other Foreign Interference.”  
VICTORY: Judge Permanently Blocks Part of Florida’s Restrictive Voting Law Targeting Nonpartisan Florida Voter Registration Groups
A federal judge permanently blocked a severely restrictive provision of Florida’s anti-voter law, SB7050, that targeted nonpartisan civic engagement groups with substantial fines if non-citizens — including legal permanent residents — helped with nonpartisan voter registration drives.

A coalition of civil rights, voting rights, and disability rights organizations filed a motion for a preliminary injunction asking the court to pause the state of Alabama from criminalizing the assistance of voters with their absentee ballot applications, which now may result in felony penalties of up to 20 years in prison.

She spent 25 years serving the Columbia community at the Daniel Boone Regional Library before retiring in 2011.

Retirement gave her time to look for a new way to support the community, which led her into leadership with the League of Women Voters.
